How to Download YouTube Videos in Linux ~~For Noobs~~

You guys might be wondering as to why i have specified this post as “For Noobs” thats because if u feel u have sufficient skills to get your work done using terminal then read this post.

This tutorial is for newbies who want to use GUI for downloading videos from youtube .

Step 1 : Open Firefox ,Go to YouTube and Open the video which you want to download.

Step 2 : Allow the whole video to buffer ..It does not matter whether you play the video or not.Do not close the YouTube window till the whole download process is complete .

Step 3 : After the whole video is loaded ..navigate to /tmp folder. Here you will find a video file with the name starting with ‘Flash’ and followed by some characters Eg ‘FlashXXfYcnt4’ as shown in the picture below. The flash player stores the stream files in /tmp folder temporarily.

Step 4 : Now that you have found the video file copy it to a suitable location and rename it along with the extension to .flv .

Thats it .No need to download unnecessary software or use any online youtube downloader … πŸ™‚
